In November 2016, the Government of Canada made improvements to the Express Entry Immigration Selection System. The goal of the changes made was to “put greater weight on human capital, skills and experience”. One of the most prominent changes was the amount of points awarded to candidates that have obtained a job offer, reducing this to 50 or 200 points down from 600 points.
This has given hope to candidates who have not been able to receive an invitation to apply in previous rounds. With these changes, the pool has opened to a greater variety of candidates. For example, in the latest draw which occurred earlier this month the pool of candidates increased substantially. This had a huge impact on decreasing the CRS score required to get an invitation for permanent residence. The most recent draw has also had the lowest Comprehensive Ranking Score of all time, 447 points with more than 3,500 ITA’s issued.
